Tara Smith Gaston
Tara is a creative, dynamic, and experienced communication professional with 18 years of experience working in the private and public sectors. She is a value-based and ethical leader, critical thinker, and trusted advisor. Trained as a journalist at Humber College, Tara understands the power of personal narratives and individual journeys.
Communication consists of two key components: an ability to speak and be understood, and an ability to listen and understand. Tara implicitly recognizes that the power of language is the ability to communicate effectively in a social environment that can shape, influence, and change society.
At a young age, Tara was keenly aware of the injustices of gender inequities. She expanded her knowledge and advocacy to areas of human rights, equity, anti-racism, intersectionality, and anti-oppression. Her most recent work is within the child welfare sector.
As a passionate advocate and ally, Tara creates communication materials with equity in mind and uses inclusive language meant to reach and connect with diverse audiences and stakeholders. Tara’s experiences and expertise include copy writing, editing, media relations, social media management, crisis communication, brand management, event planning, speech writing, employee communications, and employee relations.
Tara is an avid equestrian who loves being outdoors in nature. She remains committed to lifelong learning, changing, and growing.
